They answer different shopper behavior
Search campaigns respond to a query. They are useful when a shopper is looking for a make, model, finance answer, service, trade-in option, or dealer nearby. Vehicle Ads are inventory-focused and rely on eligible vehicle data. Treating one as a replacement for the other usually leaves a gap.
Vehicle ads depend on feed quality
A vehicle ad cannot fix a stale price, sold unit, missing image, weak VDP, or inaccurate mileage. Google requires eligible inventory and landing-page information to match. The feed and VDP should be checked before budget is pushed behind a vehicle.
Search gives you language from the market
Search-term review shows the language shoppers use before they reach the website. That can expose model intent, finance questions, trade-in interest, and irrelevant traffic. Negative keywords and campaign structure are practical controls, not housekeeping.
Use the right destination
A specific vehicle can go to the VDP when the page is current and easy to use on mobile. A broader offer may need a focused landing page. The destination should answer the question that caused the click and make the next step clear.
Measure beyond the click
Review calls, forms, VDP activity, campaign cost, search terms, vehicle availability, and CRM outcomes where possible. A low-cost click is not automatically a useful dealership opportunity.
